Wales rugby team captain Warburton (Sam) is hopeful that his team-mates would follow him in signing dual contracts soon. However, he admitted that some of his guys are unwilling to sign up with double contract deals & not so keen on tying themselves to the Welsh team.
Dan Lydiate, Sam’s back-row partner, was the 2nd player to nod for the newly launched National Dual Contracts as he signed up with Ospreys under the joint deal along with Wales Union.
WRU & regions extended 12 players the new dual deals during autumn internationals with the vision to preserve the best of talents in the Wales team. The Ospreys trio Rhys Webb, Dan Biggar and Alun Jones, plus prop Lee (Scarlets), Toby Faletau, try-ace Cuthbert, Gareth Anscombe, Scott Williams & youngsters Hallam Amos, Tyler Morgan and Rhodri Jones- are all about to sign contracts that were extended to them.
Each of them have been offered this opportunity follow Warburton on the new deals that would be funded 60 percent by WRU & 40 percent by the respective regions.
The Welsh rugby captain is delighted with the new system and has even publicly praised it, admitting that it was his advice that inspired Lydiate to complete his turn.
“You talk regarding the ins & outs, what this contract entails”, stated the Welsh skipper.
“And we are both under the care of our common agent Derwyn Jones. Jones did a fantastic job in sorting the very central contract for me & similarly with him (Dan). It was all pretty smooth.”
“Yes, it’s going to take some time to phase in. It is not anything that you will click & all the players would jump for it. I know that there are some of the players who are not so willing.”
