Relishing the prospects of participating in the Six Nations this season, Wales Scrum-half, Gareth Davies has called on his team mates to find top gear as they enter into the competition.
Davies feels that the beginning of the campaign should see his Wales Rugby team find the top gear into the competition, especially as they would be meeting with some of the heavyweights such as England, who are currently in high spirits and amazing form, and Ireland who recently won their game against Australia.
For Wales, their autumn international series came to an end with a win over South Africa which saw them beat their counterparts 27-13. On the other hand, Ireland came off with a back to back win against both New Zealand and Australia. England, the in-form heavyweights led by Eddie Jones, remain unbeaten up to this point.
Wales’ Six Nation campaign will begin with a game against Italy at Cardiff on February 5, while six days later, they would play host to Eddie Jones men.
Davies was quoted saying, Continue reading
Well, some of the Welsh rugby clubs are not doing well as we speak.
They are going through a crisis. The players refuse to wear their boots. Some of the clubs are on the verge of folding. They simply have no clue how to run a team. Yep, West Wale has never seen such a crisis in the community rugby. It’s a new phenomenon. And you have to remember that the new season is around the corner. What is the root cause of this crisis? Well, it has something to do with players dedicating their time to watch Swansea City FC play.
The biggest problem faced by the clubs is that they are unable to field players. They are dealing with an acute shortage of players. Therefore, they are forced to fold at the beginning itself. Penygroes RFC had celebrated their 125th anniversary a year ago. But they dropped out 12 months after that. Something similar has happened with Llanelli-based side. They recently celebrated their anniversary after an Ireland tour. But they had to drop out of the 3rd Division sighting player shortage prior to the season.
Sam Warburton ends his reign as captain of the Wales Rugby Team. Alun Wyn Jones has been selected to take over his position. Ospreys lock Alun, of 31 years of age, is set to take on the captainship and the formal handing over will happen on 17th January. Interim coach, Rob Howley would also be announcing the members of the Six Nations team on the same day.
That is how the New Year has begun for the Wales Rugby team. Sam Warburton started off as a flanker from Cardiff Blues. He took on captainship of the team back in 2011. He led the team to victories against the Irish Lions as well as the British along with a win against Australia in the year 2013. Continue reading
The fixture that was set up with the Chiefs is defended by Warren Gatland.
He said that the mauling that the team received in the middle of the week will surely benefit the Wales rugby team. There was a question raised by Steve Hansen, the All Blacks coach. He asked as to why the Wales team has taken on such a fixture being in the middle of the international series being played against New Zealand. It has fallen in between the first and second Test matches. As per the Wales coach, the decision to play with the Chiefs was to get the players spruced up for the second Test. The game was held on Tuesday. The team received a hammering from the Chiefs, the score for the game ending at 40-7. Steve Hansen, the All Blacks coach asked why Wales coach had taken such a decision. Gatland insisted that the match was a grueling lesson for the team and he has no regrets about his team playing the match.
Shane Williams has been in the news all week for the performance he put in for Glenswilly GAA. Being part of the Welsh rugby team, this performance saw him put the Glenswilly team at an advantageous position. It is not often that a team’s player stands out in the news for the performance he puts in for another team. Shane Williams’ performance also stands out as he played for a football club and not for a rugby one. This was another stunning example that has not often come across.
Williams received a lot of praises from the international audience. Many experts are talking about the magical display of talents that he put up despite tough weather conditions for the Gaelic football club. Many described him to be determined and committed as he stayed focused on the ball despite blizzard like conditions that prevailed during the game. The praises were more for the lad as he played a game that he does not play normally and that too at 40 years of age. Continue reading
The young Welsh team topples the best team of New Zealand. This is definitely one of the remarkable achievements of the first college team of Wales.
They have made a huge achievement by defeating one of the rugby schools that are well established in the world. Here we are talking about the U18s team called Coleg y Cymoedd who has made a win of 44-8 over the Hamilton Boys’ High School rugby team. Known as the alma mater of Warren Gatland, the Welsh coach, it is definitely a win that is substantial.
For those who witnessed the match, the Wales team puts on a unique style which helped them win the match that was held in the Pontypridd’s Sardis grounds. The team has not only made this win, but they have also managed to win over Coleg Sir Gar in the final match of the Welsh Colleges Cup. The win was in a more equitable match where the score had been 44-24. It was held at the Principality stadium. Continue reading
